Prison Tower in Głogówek

The Prison Tower at 1 Słowackiego Street is one of three historic buildings used by the Regional Museum in Głogówek. Built in 1595 as part of the town’s defences, it served as a watchtower and prison. Today the tower forms part of a museum route about the town and historic Silesia.

Cells, the “grandmother’s room” and punishment

The tower contains cells with barred windows and doors, plus a room known as the “dark room”, probably a former torture cell. The exhibition includes a hangman’s silhouette and material about historical punishment, so this section may not suit very young children or sensitive visitors. The museum also presents “izba u starki”, a traditional Silesian home interior, as well as clothing, household objects and farming tools.

Tower, castle and gate in one visit

The museum operates in the Prison Tower, castle and castle gate. Combine the tower with a walk through Głogówek’s historic centre, the castle complex and the nearby Loreto House. Check before travelling which parts are open on the day of your visit.

The official contact page currently lists visiting hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00–16:00; weekend visits are possible by prior arrangement.
