Rozkochów Palace

In Rozkochow, a village in the Walce commune in the former Prudnik land, stands a two-storey Baroque palace laid out in the shape of letter U, with two forward-projecting wings and a mansard roof. The residence is adjoined by an almost 16-hectare park-and-farm complex, and the building's history links the Puecklers, the Seherr-Thosses and a contemporary arts foundation.

From Renaissance to Baroque

A Renaissance residence with a regular garden probably arose here in the mid-17th century. In 1734, when the estate belonged to the Pueckler family, the palace was extended and remodelled in the Baroque style — that date appears in the circular tympanum of the portal, next to the cartouche with the coat of arms of the Seherr von Thoss family, owners until 1945. The estate was bought in 1851 by the Seherr-Thosses from Dobra; from 1909 Hermann von Seherr-Thoss managed it with his young wife Muriel, with whom he moved into the palace that same year.

The 20th century and renewal

During the war a camp of the Reich Labour Service for Young Women operated in the palace, and after the war the building passed to a state farm. In the 1950s the family of Stanislaw Szozda, later an Olympic cyclist, lived here with their parents. In January 2021 the palace was bought by businessman Grzegorz Wnek, and still in the same year the Rozkochow Palace Foundation – Pomiedzy was established, aiming to renew the residence and turn it into a centre of art and culture; artistic events take place on the palace grounds.

In practice

The village lies in the Raciborz Basin, about 16 kilometres from the Czech border, between Krapkowice and Glogowek — best visited during a journey on the national road south from Opole. The palace is admired above all from outside: from the front, with its semicircular risalit passing into a four-sided tower with a helmet, and from the park side, from where the whole complex can be seen.
