Poznań's Christmas markets – known together as Betlejem Poznańskie (Poznań Bethlehem) – open earliest of all the big markets in our guide: the market at the Poznań International Fair grounds starts on 14 November, Plac Wolności (Freedom Square) on 20 November and the Old Market Square on 21 November. The two city-centre markets run until 6 January 2027; the one at the fair grounds closes on 20 December. In December, the Old Market Square also hosts the 20th Poznań Ice Festival, an international ice-sculpting competition.
Three locations, three moods: a Ferris wheel and rides on Plac Wolności, an ice rink among the Old Town's merchant houses, and a cosy market with Santa's house at the fair grounds next to the main station. Below you'll find dates, a map, transport from the airport, paying in złoty and what to see nearby. Poznań is just one stop – the national picture is in Christmas markets in Poland 2026.

| Location | Dates 2026/2027 | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Plac Wolności | 20 Nov 2026 – 6 Jan 2027 | market, Ferris wheel (in 2025), rides |
| Old Market Square (Stary Rynek) | 21 Nov 2026 – 6 Jan 2027 | market, ice rink, Poznań Ice Festival 11–13 December |
| Poznań International Fair (MTP) | 14 Nov – 20 Dec 2026 | Santa's house, Venetian carousel, concerts, workshops |
Dates from the organisers' websites, checked on 13 October 2026.
Plac Wolności is the most fairground-like part of the Poznań Bethlehem. In 2025 a Ferris wheel stood here, offering views over the illuminated centre, surrounded by rides and huts selling food, crafts and decorations. It's a great place for an evening with kids, right by the main shopping streets and a few minutes from the Old Market Square.
On the Old Market Square the stalls surround the Renaissance Town Hall, and in 2026 there will be an ice rink again. In December the square becomes an open-air sculptors' studio: the Poznań Ice Festival celebrates its 20th edition in 2026. The organisers promise a special jubilee programme. The festival runs from 11 to 13 December 2026 – if you can, plan your visit for the festival weekend; watching blocks of ice turn into sculptures is one of the highlights of a Poznań December.
The Christmas Market at the Poznań International Fair (MTP) opens on 14 November and closes on 20 December. MTP Group promises Santa's house, a Venetian carousel, concerts and workshops, plus stalls with local delicacies, regional products and crafts. It's the handiest location if you arrive by train – the fair grounds are right next to Poznań Główny station.
At the city-centre markets you'll find mulled wine (also non-alcoholic) served in a souvenir mug, plus classic Polish market food such as pierogi and grilled sausages. Look out for Poznań's signature pastry, the St Martin's croissant (rogal świętomarciński) filled with white poppy seeds – it has EU protected geographical status and is sold in local bakeries throughout the season. No 2026 prices have been published.
Poznań has its own dialect, and a few words come in handy at the market: bimba means tram, pyry are potatoes, plyndze are potato pancakes and a tytka is a paper bag. In 2025 a decorated “Christmas bimba” tram toured the city, and the city tree was lit with a ceremony on 6 December.
The most Poznań souvenir is, of course, a St Martin's croissant – buy it from a certified bakery to get the real thing. At the markets, look for crafts by local makers, tree decorations and regional food products, which the fair grounds market particularly focuses on. Collectors hunt for the souvenir mulled-wine mugs used at the city-centre markets.
The map shows all three Poznań Bethlehem locations. Plac Wolności and the Old Market Square are about 10 minutes apart on foot; the fair grounds are about 15 minutes' walk from Plac Wolności.

Gift idea: design a personalised Poznań map poster with a heart on the Old Market Square – it takes a few minutes and you get a print-ready PDF.
Prices are in Polish złoty (zł, PLN); euros are generally not accepted. Most food stalls take cards and contactless payments, but carry some small cash for snacks, rides and mug deposits. If the card machine offers your home currency, decline and pay in PLN.
Poznań-Ławica Airport is only about 6 km from the centre. City bus 159 runs from the terminal into town in roughly 25 minutes, and a taxi or ride-hailing car takes about 15–20 minutes. Arriving by train at Poznań Główny, you can walk straight to the fair grounds market; Plac Wolności is about 15 minutes away on foot or a short tram ride.
Poznań's market season is long – from mid-November to Epiphany – so you can easily avoid the busiest weekends by coming early in the season or between Christmas and New Year. To see all three markets in one day, visit before 20 December, when the fair grounds market closes. Weekday afternoons before 16:00 are the calmest; after dark (around 15:45) the Old Market Square is at its most beautiful.
Get off the train at Poznań Główny and start at the fair grounds market. Then walk along Św. Marcin Street past the Imperial Castle to Plac Wolności – a Ferris-wheel ride at dusk gives the best view of the festive centre. Finish on the Old Market Square with the ice rink, the lit-up Town Hall and dinner in one of the restaurants in the old merchant houses.
Trams are the easiest way to get around the centre. The Old Town is a paid parking zone and spaces fill up quickly on December weekends. If you drive to the fair grounds market, use the MTP car parks; the market's website shows directions and free spaces.
Families will love the fair grounds market (Santa's house, Venetian carousel, workshops) and the rides on Plac Wolności. The organisers have not yet published accessibility or dog rules for 2026. The fair grounds are flat, and the fair grounds market website has pages on facilities for disabled visitors, ATMs and first aid; the Old Market Square is cobbled. If you bring a dog, avoid weekend evenings.
Poznań has plenty of hotels near the station and in the Old Town. Prices rise mainly on weekends with big events such as the Ice Festival, so book early if you're coming for it.

No. Only attractions such as the Ferris wheel, ice rink and rides are paid.
Neither Betlejem Poznańskie nor the fair-grounds market has published 2026 prices, so we're not guessing.
