Poznań Fara

Poznań Fara, the collegiate church and basilica on Gołębia Street, is one of Poland’s most important Baroque monuments. Its full dedication is to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St Mary Magdalene and St Stanislaus. A few steps from the Old Market Square, it is an essential stop on a Poznań walk for its Roman inspiration and monumental interior.

Baroque interior

The church was designed to serve both parish and collegiate functions, drawing on Roman architecture. Inside, look for the monumental high altar, rows of side altars, rich stucco and the scale of the nave. The Fara shows how a grand Baroque design was adapted to the everyday life of a parish.

Hidden corners and music

Special guided visits can include the sacristy, Baroque chapter house, lesser-known corners and the underground spaces. Organ concerts are held on Saturdays, followed by guided visits. These routes depend on the parish’s current programme.

Practical information

The Fara opens daily, but visitors should not sightsee during Mass. The parish website publishes current opening information and guided-tour arrangements. Allow 20–30 minutes for a basic visit and longer for the hidden spaces and crypts. Combine the Fara with the Town Hall, Old Market Square and Ostrów Tumski.
