Pontoon Ride down the Wielka Krokiew Ski Jump

In winter the Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane serves ski jumpers; in summer its inrun turns into a course described as the biggest slide in the world. The pontoon ride — for that is what it is — takes place without a jump, on special tubing mats over an ice surface; it was the first such track in Europe and the second in the world, launched thanks to an agreement with the Central Sports Centre.

Three speed levels

You can start from three levels of the hill. From the lowest you accelerate to about 60 km/h — children from 7 years may start here. From the second level you reach about 80 km/h, but only after completing the first level and for those aged 11 and over. The highest start, beneath the LOTOS sign, gives 90–100 km/h — speeds close to those with which World Cup competitors land.

What the ride looks like

The procedure is clear: a ticket, instruction, a mandatory helmet, a chairlift ride to the start and the descent. Every participant receives a completion certificate, and for an extra fee you can order a GoPro recording with a measurement of your actual speed.

In practice

Address: Bronisława Czecha 1, Zakopane. In season the attraction operates daily from 12:00 to 19:00. A regular ticket costs PLN 59, a reduced one (up to age 15) PLN 39, each subsequent ride PLN 29, and a GoPro recording PLN 30; entry to the hill grounds with the chairlift is PLN 20 (reduced 15). The Stanisław Marusarz ski jump has a construction point of K125 and a hill size of HS140, and lies at about 1,050 m above sea level on the northern slope of Mount Krokiew.
