Czapielówka Reservoir in Czarna Białostocka

Among the forests of the Knyszyn Forest (Puszcza Knyszyńska), on the outskirts of Czarna Białostocka, lies the Czapielówka reservoir — a small body of water that serves as a bathing spot in summer and a destination for walkers and anglers the rest of the year. It sits about 20 km from the centre of Białystok, so townspeople come here often as well.

A pond dating back to World War II

The origins of the reservoir go back to World War II, when it was created on a forest clearing amid the trees. After years of neglect the site was revitalised: the two banks are now linked by a pier, and a walkway with railings runs around the entire reservoir, accessible to wheelchair users too. Car parks have been laid out nearby, so arriving by car is easy.

Swimming and fishing

In summer the banks fill with sunbathers, while anglers cast for pikeperch, pike, tench, perch, crucian carp and common carp. The short, level path around the water and the calm surface work well for family outings. Czarna Białostocka itself lies on the Białystok Upland, surrounded by forest, which makes this corner a good base for trips into the woodland.

The reservoir is located on Fabryczna Street in Czarna Białostocka. The area around the water is accessible all year round. It is worth combining a visit with sightseeing in Białystok or the Museum of Icons in Supraśl, less than 12 km away.
