Gardener's Cottage in Supraśl

Dom Ogrodnika in Supraśl, also known as the Old Post Office or Old Inn, is a historic wooden building at 3 Stanisława Konarskiego Street. It was built in the second half of the 18th century as accommodation for gardeners working in the gardens of the Supraśl monastery. Later it housed an inn and a post office, and since 1956 it has been residential. It is privately owned and can only be viewed from outside.

Wooden architecture

The building has a compact single-storey rectangular form, log construction and a rendered stone base. Its beams are joined with a characteristic swallowtail joint, and the structure is covered by a Polish broken roof with wooden shingles. The small manor-like shape stands out in Supraśl and represents the traditional wooden architecture of north-eastern Poland.

Old Post Office and Old Inn

The name Dom Ogrodnika refers to the building’s original function. An inn operated here later, followed by a post office after the First World War, which explains the two popular names. Only one of two similar gardeners’ houses survives. It is not a museum, so do not expect an interior tour or exhibition.

Practical information

The house is at 3 Stanisława Konarskiego Street, 16-030 Supraśl. There are no opening hours, tickets or regular tours: view it from the public road while respecting residents’ privacy. The monastery, Icon Museum and other central sights are nearby, so treat the house as a brief stop on a town walk. Follow local parking and access signs and do not enter the property.
