Bison Show Farm in Pszczyna

The European Bison Show Farm in Pszczyna (PSHCHI-nah) lets you get close to Europe's heaviest land mammal in the leafy historic park of a small Silesian town. Its animals belong to the famous Pszczyna line of lowland bison, which helped save the species from extinction after World War I. With a viewing platform, feeding shows and roaming peacocks, it is one of the best family-friendly things to do in southern Poland.

Where it is and how to get there

Pszczyna lies about 40 km south of Katowice and roughly 70 km west of Kraków, on the road to Bielsko-Biała and the Beskid Mountains. Trains run from Katowice. The farm is at 5 Żorska Street, at the edge of the Historic Park, a few hundred meters from Pszczyna Castle and the Market Square. The farm's paid car park (51 spaces, PLN 6 per hour) is at the park entrance on Żorska Street.

A rescue story

In 1865, Prince Hans Heinrich XI of Hochberg, owner of the Pless estate, traded 20 local deer with Tsar Alexander II for four bison from the Białowieża Forest: one bull and three cows. By the end of World War I only a handful of animals remained, yet their descendants became key to rebuilding the species worldwide. Pszczyna bison still get names beginning with "Pl" — in September 2026 a female calf was born here to the cow Platanka and the bull Pleban III. The show farm itself opened on June 1, 2008, and also breeds lowland bison of the Pszczyna line.

What you will see

• Bison at close range, best watched from a large viewing platform;
• about 10 hectares of paddocks with red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and pheasants;
• peacocks wandering among visitors, plus goats, sheep, rabbits and a donkey for younger children;
• an education building with an exhibition on Polish wildlife and a reconstructed forester's room;
• the Plessówka café and a souvenir shop.

Feeding times

Bison feeding takes place at 10 am, 12 noon, 2 pm and 4 pm in the summer season (March–October) and at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm in winter (November–March). Plan your arrival around one of them.

Opening hours and tickets

As of October 2026 (prices in Polish złoty, PLN):

• Hours: January, November and December 9 am–4 pm; February and October 9 am–5 pm; March and September 9 am–6 pm; April–August 9 am–7 pm. Open year-round.
• Tickets: adult PLN 28, reduced PLN 22, family ticket (2 adults + up to 3 children aged 4–16) PLN 82; combined ticket with the open-air village museum PLN 40 / PLN 30. Children under 4 enter free.

Practical tips

The viewing platform and education building are wheelchair accessible. Dogs are not allowed (except guide dogs), and feeding or touching the animals is forbidden. Allow 1.5–2 hours.

Is it worth visiting?

Yes, especially with children, and combined with Pszczyna Castle Museum, one of Poland's best-preserved aristocratic residences, and the Pszczyna Village open-air museum next to the park.
