Fortifications
Kłodzko Fortress occupies the hill above the town and combines an open-air route with an underground defensive system. Comfortable shoes matter here as much as an interest in history: expect cobbles, stairs, narrow passages and a constant temperature underground.
The Upper Route crosses bastions, exhibitions and displays, with views over Kłodzko. The second option is the Countermine Tunnels, an underground system of corridors stretching for roughly 7 km in total. The routes explain not just what the fortifications look like, but how defenders tried to detect and stop enemy mining works.
From April to September the fortress is open 09:00–19:00; in October 09:00–17:00; from November to March 09:00–16:00. Last entry is one hour before closing. A ticket for either the Upper Route or the labyrinth costs PLN 38 full price and PLN 30 reduced. Parking on Czech Street is paid. Dogs are allowed on the fortress grounds but not in the labyrinth. Underground temperatures remain around 8–10°C.
Visitors with limited mobility should plan carefully: the main courtyard is accessible, while the underground section is not wheelchair-accessible.
Tripto tip: choose your route according to the weather and your energy. The Upper Route offers the view; the tunnels offer a completely different atmosphere and temperature.
