Ławica Palace and Folwark Szyfrów

Ławica is the lowest-lying village in the Kłodzko Valley, strung along a steep bank above the Nysa Kłodzka river right where it enters the Bardo Gorge. Above the former farmyard rises an eclectic palace with a five-sided tower, remodelled in 1886 for Rudolph Schöller. Today it offers accommodation, the Folwark Szyfrów puzzle game and rafting through the gorge – less than 4 km from Kłodzko.

History: home of the estate managers

The village appears in records as early as 1337 as Lawicz, and a manor farm is mentioned in 1380. The palace was probably built in the 18th century; the first written reference dates from 1830. In 1886 it was remodelled for the estate's owner, Rudolph Schöller – the date is visible in the triangular pediment on the garden front. From 1905 the owner was Caesar Schöller. Interestingly, the building was mostly lived in by the inspectors and agents who ran the estate rather than by the owners themselves. It was listed as a historic monument on 30 November 1994.

What to look for

• The five-sided corner tower – the dominant feature of the building.
• The date 1886 in the pediment of the garden-side projection.
• The wooden balcony over the ground-floor porch, under a mansard-style cap, and the two-storey oriel.
• Banded rustication, cornices and decorative window surrounds – a mix of neo-Renaissance and neo-Baroque.
• Nearby, an old watermill was converted in 1921–1923 into a hydroelectric plant of about 0.6 MW, with turbines from 1914.

Folwark Szyfrów and rafting

The farm buildings house Folwark Szyfrów ("Cipher Farm") – an interactive outdoor game in escape-room style, with logic and hands-on puzzles and storylines from the Amber Road to the Napoleonic Wars. It takes about 60–90 minutes and costs PLN 80 (reduced PLN 50, per the venue's website in October 2026). Raft trips through the Bardo Gorge start next to the palace, which also rents out 5 apartments.

Folwark Szyfrów and the rafting are geared to groups, so book by phone or email before you come. The palace itself can be seen from outside in a quarter of an hour – the interiors are not open for sightseeing. Combine Ławica with Kłodzko and its fortress, or with a trip through the Bardo Gorge to the town of Bardo.
