Rafting through the Bardo Gorge

Between the Kłodzko Valley and Bardo, the Nysa Kłodzka cuts through the Bardo Mountains in five great meanders, in a valley some 150 metres deep. By raft you travel the whole gorge – just under 15 km in 2.5–3.5 hours – from the palace complex in Ławica to the Gothic bridge in Bardo. When the water is low, the route suits even families with children and older people.

The Bardo Gorge

The Nysa Kłodzka gorge is 15 km long and runs from the mouth of the Ścinawka at Ścinawica to Przyłęk. It is an antecedent gorge: the river flowed here before the mountains began to rise slowly in the Pliocene, and gradually cut into the rock, forming a winding valley at around 255 m above sea level. In many places the water undercuts the slopes and exposes rock faces, although on its wide bends the Nysa now looks more like a lowland river than a mountain one. In the Pleistocene the ice sheet pushed through the gorge into the Kłodzko Valley.

How the trip works

The main starting point is in Ławica, right next to Kłodzko, at the Ławica Palace estate, with ticket offices, toilets and parking for 300 cars. The finish is at the landing on Skalna Street in Bardo, by the Rock Slide (Obryw Skalny). The route runs through the whole town and under its bridges, including the Gothic bridge in Bardo. Both landings are close to railway stations, and the organiser's buses run from the finish back to Ławica.

Rafts for 6–7 people are available, as well as two-person kayaks that can take a small child as a third passenger. Trips are supervised by lifeguards and instructors, and the price includes a seat in a raft or kayak, a paddle and a life jacket.

Prices for the 2026 season: standard ticket PLN 90, reduced PLN 80, family 2+2 PLN 70 per person, extra children PLN 35; starting and buying in Bardo adds PLN 10 per person for the transfer. A raft needs at least three people and can carry up to four children. The organiser warns about companies impersonating it and asks people not to pay deposits to account numbers sent by others. The season runs from March to the end of November; bring a change of clothes and ask about the water level, as it shapes the character of the route.
