Lubomirski Family Seats Heritage Trail

The Lubomirski Family Seats Heritage Trail is an 879-kilometre themed route linking the residences of one of the most powerful families of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It runs for 478 km in Poland, 247 km in Ukraine and 154 km in Slovakia — from Stalowa Wola via Baranów Sandomierski, Rzeszów, Boguchwała, Łańcut, Przeworsk and Przemyśl to Lviv, Stará Ľubovňa, Nowy Sącz and Nowy Wiśnicz.

The family that shaped the Commonwealth

The fortune of the Lubomirski family was founded by Sebastian Lubomirski, salt-mine lessee of Kraków and senator, active from the 1580s. For four centuries the family held the highest offices, managed its own and royal estates, funded schools and learned institutions and acted as a patron of the arts. That power is still visible today: the castle in Baranów Sandomierski, the Lubomirski castle in Rzeszów, the superbly preserved residence in Łańcut or the castle in Nowy Wiśnicz. Many of these buildings now house museums and cultural institutions; others serve as hotels or government offices.

How to plan the trip

The trail follows mainly national and regional roads, which makes touring by car convenient. A curiosity is the Przemyśl–Sanok connector (69 km), which allows you to skip the Ukrainian section and shorten the route by 270 km. The road leads through varied regions: the Sandomierz Basin, the Rzeszów Foothills, the Lower San Valley, the Low Beskids, the Sącz Beskids and the Poprad valley. The reference point of the route is the castle complex in Łańcut — one of the best-preserved aristocratic residences in Poland.
