The Opole Culinary Trail Bifyj, run by the Opole Regional Tourist Organisation, was launched in 2015 as a map of the flavours of Opole Silesia. Its name comes from the word “bifyj”, used in the local dialect for beef. The network includes 23 venues — from hotel restaurants in Opole, through the kitchen in the palace at Moszna, to family inns cooking from recipes passed down through generations.
Your passport to the trail is the dishes on the List of Traditional Products of Opole Voivodeship: siemieniotka, wodzionka or kartoffelsalat, and for dessert the Silesian kołocz cake, śliszki and krajanki. The hosts make sure the dishes follow traditional recipes — the cuisine doubles as a lesson in the region’s history, where Polish, Czech, Austrian and German influences intertwined.
The trail’s idea goes beyond meals: the venues take part in culinary festivals and cultivate the region’s table customs, so a dinner often complements a tour of the castles and palaces of Opole Silesia. Restaurants operate among others at the palace in Moszna, and in Krapkowice, Kamień Śląski and Niemodlin, allowing the route to be combined with sites such as St. Anne’s Mountain or the JuraPark Krasiejów.
Check the current list of venues and opening hours with the organiser — the Opole Regional Tourist Organisation is based at Żeromskiego 3 in Opole. Reserve 2–3 days to cover the whole route; Opole is the most convenient base, with every venue within about an hour’s drive.
