The Tower in Krapkowice

The Tower in Krapkowice, also known as the Upper Gate Tower, is the best-preserved element of the old town walls and one of the town’s symbols. It stands on Basztowa Street in the historic centre, near the castle, and serves as an exhibition space and viewpoint.

Gothic, Renaissance and the bugle call

The tower was built in the second half of the 14th century and rebuilt around 1580. It has a rectangular plan, three levels, a barrel-vaulted ground floor and an attic with an arched frieze and arrow slits. It formed part of the fortifications by the town’s western gate. Krapkowice’s bugle call sounds from the tower at noon.

Exhibitions and views

The floors host local and art exhibitions. In the 2026 season, the programme includes old tower photographs, renovation records, ceramics and part of Maria Wandrowska’s “Dragons” exhibition. From the terrace with a telescope, you can see Krapkowice in four directions. Combine the visit with a walk through the centre and the castle across the Oder.

Hours, tickets and rules

In the 2026 season, the tower is open from 10 April to 31 October: Fridays 1:00–4:00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays 2:00–6:00 pm. A regular ticket costs PLN 5; pupils, students up to 26 and groups of at least 10 pay PLN 3. Children under 7 enter free. Other times can be arranged on +48 515 518 344. The route includes stairs and a terrace; the building is not adapted for visitors with mobility disabilities. Check the current schedule before travelling.
