Castles
Among the old trees of an English landscape park in Rogów Opolski stands a Renaissance and Classicist castle from the 16th century, its courtyard closed on two sides by arcaded cloisters. The residence belongs to the Public Provincial Library in Opole, which keeps its most precious collections here.
The castle interiors hold early printed books, manuscripts and historic cartography — the most valuable collections of the Opole library. For visitors there is an exhibition devoted to the history of the book and a film about the residence itself. Visits take place on weekdays between 11:00 and 16:00; tickets cost PLN 6 (reduced PLN 4) and parking is free.
The castle and the neighbouring Neo-Gothic House under the Rooster of 1915, which offers overnight stays, are surrounded by a historic park in the English style. Oaks dominate, but ginkgo, tulip trees and planes also grow here. The avenues invite walks, and with a little luck roe deer and hares can be spotted near the castle.
The residence stands at Parkowa 36–38, south of Opole, near Krapkowice and the A4 motorway. It combines well with a visit to the church of St Philip and James, the castle in Moszna (about 15 km) and the sanctuary on St Anne's Hill (about 17 km).
