Staw Zielony Pond (Sen Nocy Letniej) in Złoty Potok

In the Parkowe reserve in Złoty Potok, among old trees of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, spreads the Green Pond. Its literary name, Sen Nocy Letniej (A Midsummer Night's Dream), was given by the poet Zygmunt Krasiński, who stayed in these parts with the Raczyński family. The water mirrors trees that witnessed history, and the scenery changes with every season, always remaining one of the most photographed corners of the village.

The spring and the mill

Near the pond springs the Source of Fulfilled Dreams, also called the Camp Spring. According to local tradition, drink its crystal-clear water and throw a shiny green stone behind your back while thinking of a dream, and the dream will come true. Such stones occur here thanks to former smelting of bog iron. By the water stands the historic wooden Kołaczew Mill, built in 1807 on the site of an earlier one. Today an electric drive has replaced the water wheel, and the mill features on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesian Voivodeship.

Traces of history

Nearby is the symbolic grave of Major Jan Wrzosek, commander of the 74th Lubliniec Infantry Regiment, who fell here in 1939. A little further opens the Bear Cave, where bones of cave bear, rhinoceros and reindeer were found, along with traces of humans from the Old Stone Age. The Parkowe reserve lies within the Natura 2000 area Ostoja Złotopotocka.

You reach the pond from Kościuszki street, the area is available around the clock, and the Amerykan pond with its seasonal promenade lies nearby.
