Stud Farm in Moszna

Beside the historic palace park in Moszna, in the Krapkowice district, a stud farm has been shaping Polish thoroughbred racing for more than seventy years. The Moszna Stud Farm is both a breeding centre and a place where riding lessons, trail rides and equestrian camps meet the history of the sport.

A breeding programme since 1948

The stud began in 1948, when 25 thoroughbred mares — animals that had survived the war at private studs in Wielkopolska and eastern Poland — were settled in the palace park. Until 1961 the farm also kept Norwegian Fjord mares, later moved to Nowielice. In February 2001 the stud was privatised, keeping its historic name. It belongs to the Polish Horse Breeders Association and the Polish Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

A racing pedigree

Horses from Moszna have won more than 200 named races, including five editions of the Polish Derby and two abroad. In 2009 came victory in the Velká Pardubická, the most demanding steeplechase in Europe. The stud's horses also win in show jumping, dressage and eventing, including the opening competition of the World Jumping Championships in Leipzig. The herd now numbers more than 180 horses, thoroughbreds and warmbloods alike.

For visitors

The stud also works as a tourist centre: riding lessons, short rides and longer trail rides, equestrian camps, pony rides for children and carriage drives. Guest rooms, a mini zoo and a campfire spot are on site. The Moszna palace with its historic park is only a few minutes away on foot.

Tripto tip: come in the late afternoon, when the horses are turned out into the paddocks; you can combine the visit with the castle in Głogówek, less than 12 kilometres away.
