Ski resorts
Wisła, Silesian
Soszów Ski Area in Wisła (say "SO-shoof" and "VEE-swah") sits in the Jawornik valley on the slopes of Soszów Wielki (886 m / 2,907 ft) in the Silesian Beskids, now branded as Wisła Soszów Ski&Bike Arena. It is one of the most popular ski hills in Wisła, a resort town in southern Poland. A four-seat chairlift, six floodlit runs and a large free parking lot make it an easy, family-friendly day on snow.
Wisła lies in the far south of Silesia, close to the Czech border, about 1.5 hours by car from Katowice and around 2–2.5 hours from Kraków. About 1 km before the town center, turn into the Jawornik valley. The base station has a free parking lot for about 600 cars, and local minibuses link hotels in Wisła with the slopes. Regional trains run from Katowice to Wisła, so a car-free trip is possible.
Mining money built Soszów in the 1980s – the Wodzisław coal mine "1 Maja" ran it for its workers. The four-seat chairlift arrived in the 2008/09 season. Today the operator lists four lifts:
There are six runs totaling about 6.2 km (3.9 mi): a red run along the chairlift, a red-blue run, three blue runs of up to 1.9 km and a short black section. All are groomed, have snowmaking and are floodlit. On selected Fridays the hill stays open for night skiing until 11 pm. There is a rental shop, ski service, a ski school and a ski kindergarten.
Soszów is ideal for beginners, families and relaxed intermediates. The long blue run from the top is a good place to build confidence. Experts will find the area small and should plan a half day here, combined with other Wisła slopes.
As of October 2026, prices for winter 2026/27 have not been published. For orientation, in 2025/26 a 4-hour pass cost PLN 115 and a 6-hour pass PLN 135. A full-day pass in the Wisła-wide Wiślański Skipass system was PLN 170, with reduced fares for children and seniors. Children under 4 ride free, and there is a PLN 10 card deposit.
From spring to autumn the chairlift carries hikers and mountain bikers. Bike Park Soszów has seven trails – flow, enduro and a downhill line. In October 2026 the lift runs on weekends, 9:30 am–6 pm; a round trip costs PLN 40. A short walk from the top station takes you to the Soszów mountain hut.
For a relaxed ski day in the Beskids, yes. Wisła itself is worth a stop: it is the hometown of ski jumper Adam Małysz, and the Malinka ski jump and Czantoria Mountain with its lookout tower are close by.
