Kayaking the Liswarta River

The Liswarta is a 93-kilometre river lying entirely within the Silesian Voivodeship — very shallow, clean and easy, meandering through a narrow valley that in places resembles a ravine. The classic weekend plan covers 33 km in two days: from Danków via Zawady to Wąsosz Górny, with the last kilometres already on the Warta.

Day one: Danków – Zawady (14 km)

The first section opens with two portages and a rapid; a convenient stop in Szyszków offers a shop, ice cream and a beach with toilets. Overnight at the campsite in Zawady, where the centre provides cabins, showers, a kitchen and kayak transport.

Day two: Zawady – Wąsosz Górny (19 km)

A longer day with more obstacles, including a small waterfall. The river bends constantly between wooded banks, and the mouth into the Warta lies near the village of Kule — already in the Łódź region.

A river on the old border

In the interwar period the section between Łebki and Podłęże Królewskie marked the border between the Second Polish Republic and the Third Reich. The upper course is protected by the Lasy nad Górną Liswartą Landscape Park, and along the river runs the 108-kilometre Liswarciański cycling trail, from the sources to the mouth.

In practice

Kayak rentals and minibus shuttles are provided by firms operating around Zawady; the water is very shallow, so summer is the best time — after rain, check the river level first.
