St. Roch Bastion at Jasna Góra

St. Roch Bastion forms part of the 17th-century Jasna Góra Ramparts in Częstochowa and is one of four preserved casemates open to visitors. It combines the history of the monastery’s defence with exhibitions devoted to national memory.

What to see inside

The platform has reconstructed cannons referring to the defence of the monastery during the Swedish Deluge in 1655–1656. The casemates house the Treasury of National Memory, with exhibitions about Solidarity, Polish roads to freedom and memorabilia of the Smoleńsk air disaster. “Bogurodzica – Splendour of the Commonwealth of Both Nations” is currently partly unavailable, so check the exhibition scope before travelling.

Ramparts and nearby sights

The Jasna Góra Ramparts are used for walking, prayer and the Stations of the Cross. Combine the bastion with the Chapel of the Miraculous Image, the Basilica and the Jasna Góra museums. The ramparts are open daily from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. There are no audio guides for individual visitors; groups can book a guided route.

Hours and guided visits

The bastion is open daily 9:00 am–5:00 pm in summer and 9:00 am–4:00 pm from 1 November to 28 February. A standard guided tour lasts about 1–1.5 hours and includes four sites. For groups of more than five, the Polish tour costs PLN 20 per regular visitor or PLN 12 reduced; up to five people pay PLN 100. The fee includes the guide, admission and headsets. The last tour starts at 3:30 pm in summer and 2:30 pm in winter. Address: 2 Kordeckiego Street.
