Churches & monasteries
The sanctuary in Płoki, a village north of Trzebinia, lies on the edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The fame of this place is tied to the cult of Our Lady called the Lady of Płock, shown in a miraculous image from the mid-15th century. The title of the shrine refers to the patroness of working families, under whose protection local families place themselves.
The image follows the Byzantine iconographic type of the Hodegetria, in which Mary points to the Child, and was painted in tempera. It is an example of medieval icon painting that has survived the centuries and still gathers the faithful before it.
The image is kept in the church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church can be visited after telephone arrangement; the sanctuary stands at ul. Główna 2 in Płoki, in the Trzebinia municipality of the Chrzanów county. Plan your arrival by car and combine the visit with the southern edge of the Jura.
