Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Trzebinia

The tall tower of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is visible from afar in the panorama of Trzebinia, a town in the Chrzanów county of Lesser Poland. Run by the Salvatorians, the church is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, and since 31 January 2013 it has borne the title of a minor basilica.

From church to basilica

The Salvatorians have been active in Poland since 1900. The present church was built in 1961, and a year later a statue of Our Lady was brought from Fatima. In 1967 it was moved to a separate chapel, and in 1997 it was crowned with papal crowns; that same year the church was raised to the dignity of a sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima. Thirteen years later the Holy See granted it the title of a minor basilica.

Fatima Nights

The most famous devotion of the Trzebinia sanctuary is the Fatima Nights, held on Saturdays after the 13th day of the month. Prayers before the statue crowned with papal crowns draw pilgrims from a wide area and shaped the recognisability of the church in the region.

Practical information

Trzebinia has about 18,500 inhabitants and lies on the western edge of Lesser Poland. The basilica stands within the town's buildings, visible already from distant points; plan your visit for a Saturday after the 13th day of the month to take part in a Fatima Night.
