Dziwnów Promenade

Dziwnów Promenade (pronounced roughly "JEEV-noof") is a seaside walkway of about 2.5 km in the small Baltic resort of Dziwnów in northwestern Poland. Its newest stretch, the Western Promenade, runs along the very top of a white sand dune, so you walk above the vegetation with open views of the sea from 19 viewing decks. Free, open all year and easy for all ages, it is one of the most pleasant things to do in Dziwnów, especially at sunset.

Where it is and how to get there

Dziwnów lies on the West Pomeranian coast, where the Dziwna River meets the Baltic Sea, about 90 km north of Szczecin (roughly 1.5 hours by car). Berlin is around 230 km away, which makes the resort popular with German visitors too. Szczecin-Goleniów Airport is the nearest airport. The town of Kamień Pomorski, with its medieval cathedral, is about 15 km inland. In summer, parking near the beach fills up quickly.

The three sections

According to local sources, the promenade runs from Szosowa Street to Przymorze Street in three parts:

• Szosowa to Parkowa: the oldest section, closest to the town center,
• Parkowa to Żeromskiego: the middle section, rebuilt during modernization,
• Żeromskiego to Przymorze: the Western Promenade, opened on December 8, 2018.

The Western Promenade is about 620 meters long and 3 meters wide, built on piles with grooved wooden boards, with 19 viewing terraces, benches and LED lighting. Its metal railings replaced the original wooden ones in 2021.

A little history

Dziwnów developed as a seaside resort at the turn of the 20th century, when brine springs were discovered nearby and summer visitors started arriving, many from Germany, as the area was then part of Prussian Pomerania. The waterfront was expanded in the 1920s and 1930s. The modern look comes from a revitalization completed in spring 2014 and the dune-top section added in 2018.

Practical tips (as of October 2026)

• Free and open all year; there are no tickets or hours.
• The full walk takes about 30 minutes one way at an easy pace.
• Strollers are fine on the boards, but some entrances have steps.
• Stay on the walkway: stepping onto the dune damages the plants that protect the coast.
• Bring a windproof jacket outside summer; prices in cafés are in Polish zloty (PLN).

Is it worth visiting?

If you are staying on this part of the coast, yes. It is a simple pleasure rather than a major sight, but the elevated dune walk gives views most Baltic promenades lack. Combine it with the beach, the drawbridge over the Dziwna River and the yacht harbor. September and October are lovely here: the beaches empty out, the light softens and sunsets from the dune-top terraces are spectacular.
