Viewing Platform in Trzęsacz

Trzęsacz is famous for the ruins of the Gothic church of St Nicholas, which for centuries have been losing their battle with the eroding cliff. It was precisely to protect that relic that the modern viewing platform was built in 2009 — today one of the most recognisable attractions of this stretch of coast and the best spot for viewing the ruins.

The ruins from a previously impossible angle

The steel and reinforced-concrete structure is over 10 m tall, and the walkway on top stretches more than 36 m, letting you look at the ruins from an exceptional perspective. Stairs lead to a lower terrace almost 4 m long, and an openwork staircase descends to the beach. In the evening the platform frames sunsets over the Baltic.

The church that slid towards the sea

The church of St Nicholas was one of the most imposing village churches of Western Pomerania, but the ground beneath it was steadily washed away and the building gradually fell into ruin. The preserved ruins are listed in the monuments register. The earlier viewpoint here was a simple wooden descent to the beach — dismantled to make way for work securing the ruins.

In practice

The platform stands on Klifowa Street, on the red Coastal Trail. Entry is free and the site is accessible around the clock, all year round. The upper walkway is partly accessible to prams — without the option of descending to the beach. A few steps away runs the Multimedia Museum of Trzęsacz, rounding off the visit with the story of the cliff and the church.
