Nałęczów Spa Park

Nałęczów Spa Park (say nah-WEN-choof) is a historic 25-hectare spa park in the middle of the town of Nałęczów in eastern Poland, with a pond and "Love Island", a small river, shady avenues and the Małachowski Palace. If you want a peaceful walk in the Lublin region, it is the nicest place in town: an hour is enough to see the highlights, and in good weather you may stay longer.

History of the park

The park was laid out in the mid-18th century. Stanisław Małachowski bought the estate in 1751, renamed the village Nałęczów in 1772, and the palace was built between 1771 and 1775. During construction a river bend was dug out to form ponds; later the western pond was regulated and an island was heaped up in it. The spa itself was founded in 1817 after Antoni Małachowski discovered healing springs. In 1878-1880 the doctors Fortunat Nowicki, Wacław Lasocki and Konrad Chmielewski redesigned the park, adding new lime, chestnut and mixed avenues and surrounding it with a wall. The park was badly damaged in World War II, and the spa reopened in 1953.

The park has been renewed in recent years. The Nałęczów spa company announced the completion for June 2024, and a new fountain appeared on the pond, along with refurbished benches.

What to see

• The pond with Love Island at the heart of the park and a small bridge leading to the island, with swans and ducks on the water.
• Małachowski Avenue, running from the East Gate to the palace, and the Ash, Hornbeam and Chestnut avenues.
• The Małachowski Palace, built in 1771-1775. You can admire the classical building from outside, but sources differ on whether the interiors are open, so check with the organizers first.
• The Spa House with a mineral-water pump room and a palm house, where you can taste waters from three springs.
• The Old Baths, the Gothic, Greek and Bishop's houses and monuments to the writers Stefan Żeromski and Bolesław Prus.
• The "Nałęczów Maidens" sculptures by Adam Smolana.

The park is an oasis of calm in the town center. According to the spa, about 72 species of trees and shrubs grow here.

Who it suits

The park suits families with children, seniors and literature fans, since Prus and Żeromski called it their favorite place in the spa.

Practical information (as of October 2026)

• The park: a public spa park. Official sources give no opening hours or entry fees, so treat it as freely accessible and check the town website naleczow.pl. English signage is not confirmed.
• Pump room and palm house: according to the Land of Loess Gorges tourism site, daily 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., ticket PLN 8. The operator has not confirmed this, so call before you visit.
• Palace interior: check whether visits are possible before you arrive.
• Time: about 1 to 2 hours.

How to get there

Nałęczów lies in the tourist triangle of Puławy, Kazimierz Dolny and Nałęczów, about 30 km from Lublin. Driving is easiest; check parking on site and bus timetables online.

In town you will also find the Bolesław Prus Museum and Stefan Żeromski's cottage. In the region, Kazimierz Dolny (about 30 km), Puławy with the Czartoryski Palace and Kozłówka with the Zamoyski Palace (about 35 km) are easy day trips.
