Manor Interiors Museum in Ożarów

In Ożarów, 12 km from Wieluń, stands a wooden manor house from 1757, home to the Manor Interiors Museum — a branch of the Museum of the Wieluń Land. The architecture echoes late-Baroque manor design: the log-wall structure rests on a stone-and-brick foundation, and the corners of the nearly square body are extended into four corner projections.

Interiors of a landed-gentry home

The display presents the manor culture of the Wieluń land and the native character of the Polish manor house. In turn you visit a parlour, a young lady’s room, a boudoir, men’s and women’s bedrooms, a hunting lounge, a study, a dining hall and a pantry. The antiquities come mostly from nearby manors: among the exhibits are Baroque wardrobes, chests and trunks, ceramics and a set of portraits of Wieluń nobility from various eras.

A windmill in Kocilew

The museum also owns a historic post windmill in nearby Kocilew, about 1 km from the manor — a good excuse to stroll among the fields after the interiors. Ożarów itself is a village with a medieval pedigree: first mentioned in a document of 1381, its name derives from “ożary”, places of burned forest cleared for settlement.

In practice

The manor can be visited Tuesday to Friday 9:00 am–3:30 pm and Saturdays and Sundays 12:00–4:30 pm (closed Mondays); tickets cost PLN 3.50 and reduced PLN 2.50. Coming on road 45 from Wieluń towards Opole, turn right in Wierzbie, then left at the first junction in Ożarów — a linden avenue leads straight to the larch manor.
