Muszyna Estate Regional Museum in Muszyna

The Regional Museum of the Muszyna Estate is housed in the wooden Inn on Krzywa Street 1, at the foot of the hill crowned by castle ruins. The building echoes a former inn of the manor complex below the castle, standing from the turn of the 16th–18th centuries: the ruined 18th-century original was dismantled in 2009 and rebuilt at a new site, and since 2010 it has served as the museum’s seat.

From the tourist society to a museum

The institution was created on 3 August 1958 on the initiative of Karol Rojna and the Muszyna branch of the Polish Tourist Society as the “Museum of Muszyna Keepsakes”, originally in the inn on Antoniego Kity Street. By the end of the 1990s some 2,500 objects had been gathered, bought or donated by residents of Muszyna and the neighbourhood. When the old building fell into disrepair and a bypass was routed through the town, the inn was taken down to its foundations and rebuilt on Krzywa Street — since 2024 the museum has belonged to the Muszyna Centre of Culture and Reading.

What the exhibition tells

A modern display narrates the history of the Muszyna Estate, and in the museum rooms you will see keepsakes of the starosts and burghers as well as traces of the Lemkos and Jews who for centuries co-created this region. The archaeological collection comes, among others, from excavations on the castle hill. A separate room belongs to non-professional art — headed by works of Nikifor. The building also hosts a tourist information point.

In practice

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 9:00 am–5:00 pm, Sundays 1:00–5:00 pm (closed Mondays). From the inn you can clearly see Baszta hill with the castle ruins — combine your visit with a walk up the hill; the mofette of Muszyna is 4 km away, Jaworzyna Krynicka 7 km.
