Museum of Agriculture in Ciechanowiec

The Museum of Agriculture named after Fr Krzysztof Kluk in Ciechanowiec is one of only two agricultural museums in Poland — the other one operates in Szreniawa near Poznań. Several dozen permanent exhibitions present about 30,000 exhibits, and the palace-and-park complex on the Nurzec river is visited by around 60,000 tourists every year. The seat is a classicist palace of the former Starzeński estate, earlier known as Folwark Nowy Dwór, rebuilt after war damage in 1966–1969.

Open-air museum and unique collections

The ethnographic park gathers 43 historic buildings of wooden architecture brought from villages of the Masovian-Podlachian borderland. The complex also includes an outbuilding, stables, a coach house, a working water mill and a forester's lodge. Among the exhibitions the Easter Egg Museum — the only one in Poland — stands out, with a collection of 2,203 eggs from all over the world, along with the Bread Museum in the water mill and a veterinary exhibition. The garden of medicinal plants was laid out according to the plan of the museum's patron, the 18th-century naturalist Fr Krzysztof Kluk. Technology enthusiasts will appreciate the largest museum collection of steam locomobiles in Poland — 10 units — plus more than 40 engines and tractors. The palace interiors have been preserved, including the manor-style boudoir with paintings by Prof. Ignacy Pieńkowski.

Events and practical information

Recurring events include Palm Sunday, the St Adalbert Fair, the Podlachian Bread Festival and the Potato Digging. From May to September the museum is open on weekdays from 8:00 to 18:00, on Sundays from 9:00 to 19:00; from October to April the hours are shorter. The standard ticket costs PLN 10, the reduced one PLN 5.
