Museum of Ojców National Park

At the foot of the castle hill in Ojców, in the historic building of the former Hotel Pod Łokietkiem, operates the Museum of Ojców National Park named after Władysław Szafer — the educational and museum centre of the smallest national park in Poland.

The bat park

Ojców National Park was established in 1956; it covers 21.46 sq km of the central Prądnik Valley and part of the Sąspowska Valley in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, about 16 km from Kraków. It is the smallest of Poland's national parks and its emblem is the bat. Within the park stand the ruins of the medieval castle in Ojców and the late-Renaissance Pieskowa Skała Castle.

Dioramas and 3D films

The exhibition tells the story of how the Prądnik Valley was formed millions of years ago and presents the valley's present-day nature: geology, hydrology, flora, fauna and human prehistory. Dioramas and 3D films play a key role. The display was once housed in the "Jadwiga" villa, and since the 1970s it has operated in a 19th-century former hotel — a relic of Ojców's spa past.

Practicalities

The museum is open all year, but from Monday to Friday only groups with prior reservation are admitted (tel. +48 12 389-20-05), and at weekends the site may be closed. Tickets: regular PLN 16, reduced PLN 8, a visit without the film PLN 10 / 5. Check the current schedule at ojcowskiparknarodowy.pl. Combine your visit with a walk down the valley to the castle ruins and the chapel "On the Water".
