Kabacki Forest in Warsaw

On the southern edge of Warsaw, around Leśna, Moczydłowska and Nowoursynowska streets, stretches the reserve named after Stefan Starzyński — 902.68 ha of forest protected since 11 August 1980. It borders directly on the Ursynów housing estates and a metro station, so Varsovians treat it like their own vast garden full of old trees.

What the reserve protects

The landscape is shaped by an old, multi-species tree stand and a fragment of the Warsaw Escarpment, in whose shade numerous species of flora and fauna have survived — including protected ones. History is recalled by relics scattered through the forest and a historic forester's lodge. Visits are organised by 3 tourist trails, plus educational paths in the eastern and western parts of the forest.

Forest everyday life

The proximity of Ursynów and the metro station makes the reserve a very popular destination among residents of Warsaw and the region — the simplest way to step from the city pavement into an old, dense forest without planning an all-day trip.

In practice

The reserve is open around the clock, all year round, with entrances from Leśna, Moczydłowska and Nowoursynowska streets. You can combine a walk with a trip to Wilanów Palace (about 5 km) or a stroll in the Royal Łazienki Park (about 11 km).
