Royal Garden of Light in Wilanów

The Royal Garden of Light in Wilanów (Królewski Ogród Światła, "VEE-lah-noof") is a seasonal after-dark light show in the Baroque gardens of the Museum of King Jan III's Palace in Warsaw. From autumn until the end of winter, LED sculptures, illuminated parterres, music and projection-mapping shows turn the palace grounds into an evening walking trail. It is one of the most popular winter things to do in Warsaw, especially with kids or as a festive evening out.

Dates for the 2026/2027 season

As of early October 2026, the museum had not yet published dates, opening hours or prices for the new season. The museum described the previous edition as the last one "in this form," so the next show may look different. Past editions opened in the second half of October: the 2025/2026 season ran from October 18, 2025 to March 1, 2026. Check the museum's website and online box office for confirmed details before you go.

Separately, the Royal Festival of Light takes place at Plaża Wilanów (Wilanów Beach) on October 17–18, 2026. It's a local festival, not part of the museum show, but in previous years it coincided with the garden's opening.

What the light trail was like

In 2025/2026, the route included a 75 m (about 250 ft) musical light tunnel, scenes inspired by royal court life in the main courtyard, an interactive North Garden and a garden with light-and-music shows. Around 400,000 energy-saving LEDs were used. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, light shows were projected onto the palace facade.

Walking the full route took about 45 minutes, plus around 15 minutes if you stayed for a mapping show. The best time to arrive is just after dusk, while there's still a little blue in the sky for photos.

Tickets and hours (previous season, for reference)

These figures are from the 2025/2026 season and may change:

• Monday–Thursday: PLN 35 standard, PLN 25 reduced
• Friday–Sunday and mapping days: PLN 55 / PLN 35
• Children up to 6: free
• Usually open from 4 or 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., last entry 8:30 p.m.; closed on November 1 and December 24 and 31

Tickets were sold online with a timed entry slot, at ticket machines on the palace forecourt and at the museum box office. Prices are in Polish złoty (PLN); one euro buys roughly four złoty, so even weekend tickets are moderately priced by Western European standards.

Getting there and practical tips

Wilanów is about 10 km (6 miles) south of central Warsaw. City buses, including routes 116, 180 and 519, connect the center with the palace (as of October 2026, per the museum). There's a paid museum parking lot (PLN 6 per hour) and some free public parking nearby, which fills up quickly on weekends.

A few rules and tips:

• Running and cycling are not allowed; only assistance dogs may enter.
• Intense flashing lights may bother visitors sensitive to visual stimuli.
• It gets cold standing outside in a Polish winter, so dress in warm layers and comfortable shoes.

Is it worth visiting?

If you are in Warsaw between late October and February, yes – it's an easy, family-friendly evening, and the illuminated Baroque gardens are a beautiful setting. Come back in daylight to see the palace itself: the Baroque residence of King Jan III Sobieski, famous for defeating the Ottoman army at Vienna in 1683, has been home to one of Poland's oldest museums since 1805. Note that the palace interiors will be closed on November 1, 2026, and from December 21, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
