Holy Trinity Church in Nowy Korczyn

A few dozen metres from the market square of Nowy Korczyn stands the parish church of the Holy Trinity, raised on the site of a wooden medieval church of St Elizabeth and St Lawrence, burned in 1608. The present temple was built in 1610–1634.

A facade with heraldic reliefs

The Mannerist facade of 1630 is decorated with statues of the Virgin and Child and of Sts Elizabeth, Nicholas and Lawrence, and with reliefs bearing the coats of arms of Nowy Korczyn, Kraków, Korab and Syrokomla. A Mannerist portal of 1634 leads inside. The upper floor of the sacristy added to the presbytery once held a treasury, and two arched garden shrines with a Baroque statue of Christ adjoin the presbytery.

Chapels, stucco, a Gothic triptych

The 17th-century side chapels conceal domes crowned with lanterns. In the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, an image of the Virgin and Child is venerated, while the chapel of St John Cantius preserves fragments of a late-Gothic triptych with a Lamentation. The vaults of the nave and presbytery carry stucco decoration, and the Baroque high altar dates from 1692.

In practice

In front of the church, on the market square side, stands a neo-Gothic bell tower from 1889; the complex is listed in the monument register. Allow 20–30 minutes and combine the visit with the Gothic church of St Stanislaus, about 200 metres away.
