Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Krzeszów

The wooden Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krzeszów on the San is one of the more interesting sacred landmarks of northern Podkarpacie. The present building was erected in 1727–1728 at 27 Kościelna Street. This three-nave church retains its Baroque wooden structure and rich Rococo fittings.

An 18th-century wooden church

The church was built as a larch log structure. It replaced older churches on the site, and its present form is linked with work carried out from April 1727 to September 1728. Beside it stand a wooden bell tower from 1898 and a chapel from 1905.

Rococo fittings and the Loreto image

The focal point of the interior is the wooden high altar with a figure of the Virgin and Child known as the Loreto Madonna, or locally Our Lady of Krzeszów. Notice the richly carved pulpit with its baldachin, the chalice-shaped baptismal font and the side altars. The treasury preserves valuable Gothic and Baroque monstrances. The rich fittings owe much to the patronage of the Zamoyski family.

This is an active parish church, so visit the interior outside Mass and confirm access with the parish. The address is 27 Kościelna Street, 37-418 Krzeszów; the parish publishes the current service schedule. Allow 30–45 minutes for the church, bell tower and chapel. A day route can continue to the wooden churches in Ulanów and Zarzecze and the basilica in Leżajsk.
