Lake Mikołajskie in Masuria

Lake Mikołajskie is one of the key sailing junctions in the Great Masurian Lakes. It covers about 5 km², is 5.8 km long and reaches a maximum depth of 25.9 m. In the north it connects with Lake Tałty, in the southeast with Lake Śniardwy through the Przeczka strait, and in the southwest with Lake Bełdany. This makes Mikołajki a natural starting point for cruises across Masuria.

Routes and harbours

From the town promenade and harbours, boats set out towards Śniardwy, Ruciane-Nida or Giżycko. A passenger cruise is the easiest way to see the water without bringing your own equipment; sailors and kayakers have more freedom to choose bays and stops. In season, Mikołajki offers marinas, rentals, boatyards, restaurants and accommodation.

The King of Vendace and Mikołajki

By the bridge in Mikołajki stands the King of Vendace, a sculpture linked to a local legend about the ruler of Masurian fish. Combine a lakeside walk with the promenade, market square and harbour. The lake is also part of longer routes through the Piska Forest and the Great Masurian Lakes system.

When to visit

July and August bring the most cruises, but also the busiest waterways, harbours and promenade. May and September are often calmer, although some services operate for shorter hours. Check cruise timetables, mooring rules, weather and bathing access before travelling. Keep a safe distance from other boats and respect quiet zones and bird-protection areas.
