Czerniańskie Lake

Czerniańskie Lake in Wisła, also known as the Czerniański Reservoir, is a mountain dam reservoir in the Czarne district. Built in 1968–1973 for water retention and drinking-water supply, it collects the Biała and Czarna Wisełka streams, which are linked to the source area of the Vistula. Surrounded by Silesian Beskid forests, it is a good place for a short walk, photographs and a stop combined with a hike in the Wisełka valleys.

The dam and the landscape

The dam is about 280 metres long and 30 metres high, and its crest serves as a promenade. From it, you can see the reservoir and the Beskid slopes towards Barania Góra. This is primarily water-supply infrastructure, so do not treat it as an informal bathing site or leave the designated areas.

What to combine with your visit

Nearby attractions include the Biała Wisełka Valley with the Rodło Cascades, a waterfall on the Wisełka and the President’s Castle. You can also plan a longer hike towards Barania Góra. The Wisła Forest District lists rest and parking areas nearby; check its current list and regulations before travelling.

Before you go

The dam area is listed at Czarne Street in Wisła Czarne. This is an outdoor attraction, so wear shoes with good grip and match your route to the weather. In 2026, the State Water Holding Polish Waters is carrying out another stage of work at the Wisła Czarne reservoir, including preparations for a service road and technical bridges. Access and signs may change, so check notices from the operator and the local tourist information office before your visit.
