Jarmark na Nikiszu Christmas Fair

The December fair on Plac Wyzwolenia in Katowice's Nikiszowiec district combines Christmas stalls with the atmosphere of a listed workers' housing estate. In 2024 the fair was held for the 17th time, which means the tradition goes back to the first half of the 2000s. It is organised by the Fabryka Inicjatyw Lokalnych association together with the city.

What you will see

The stalls around St Anne's church and the Zillmann square offer handmade ceramics, wood, wool and glass, Advent wreaths and glass baubles. Food stalls serve Silesian specialities, cakes, organic products, mulled wine and hot drinks. The fair takes place every year on a weekend in the first half of December, usually from 11:00 to 20:00.

Did you know

The setting can outshine the market itself: Nikiszowiec is a red-brick enclave built in 1908–1918 for the families of miners of the Giesche mine, designed by the Zillmann brothers. While visiting the fair, take a stroll through the courtyards and streets of the estate, which has more than once served as a film set.

Practical tips

On fair days free shuttle buses run from the PKP railway station and from the car parks at Murckowska avenue and the Zawodzie interchange centre. If you come by car, use the parking spaces along Szopienicka street.
