Main Beskid Trail

The Kazimierz Sosnowski Main Beskid Trail is the longest marked mountain trail in Poland. Red trail markers lead from Ustroń in the Silesian Beskids to Wołosate in the Bieszczady; according to the PTT badge regulations, the route is about 519 km long, with an estimated walking time of 162 hours.

Route and landscapes

The trail crosses the Silesian and Żywiec Beskids, the Gorce, Sącz and Low Beskids, and the Bieszczady mountains. Highlights include Równica, Czantoria, Stożek, Barania Góra, Pilsko, Babia Góra, Turbacz, Lubań, Radziejowa, Jaworzyna Krynicka and the Wetlińska and Caryńska poloniny. The highest point is Babia Góra at 1,725 m; the final section near Wołosate leads towards Tarnica and Bukowska Pass.

Planning the hike

This is a demanding long-distance route that can be completed in one expedition or split into weekend sections. Mountain huts, shepherd huts and villages make planning easier, but gaps between accommodation and supply points can be long. Before setting out, check current national-park notices, the weather and accommodation availability; carry an offline map, enough water and equipment for changing conditions.

Practical information

The Main Beskid Trail is a hiking route with no single entrance ticket, gate or ticket office. You can start in Ustroń or Wołosate and complete it in stages in either direction. Rules, fees and restrictions vary between national parks and individual sites, so check locally. The PTT also offers a badge for completing the entire trail.
