The Manor House in Skotniki

Essential information

The manor-and-park complex in Skotniki Sandomierskie is a valuable example of a Polish defensive alkierz-style manor. It stands in Samborzec municipality, about 10 km south-west of Sandomierz and 5 km from Koprzywnica. The masonry manor may date back to the 17th century, while the present residence comes from the 18th century. Its key features are the Polish broken roof, four corner alcoves, remnants of a moat and defensive bank, and a landscape park with mature trees.

Architecture and family history

The south-western alcove preserves part of a sgraffito frieze depicting dancing nymphs. Together with nearby Bogoria, Skotniki belonged to the Bogoria-Skotnicki family from at least the 14th century until 1945. The state took over the estate after the war, and the manor and park returned to the Skotnicki family in the 21st century. The monument is protected, and the grounds also retain traces of ponds and the former defensive layout.

Visiting and planning your stop

The manor is privately owned and, according to the heritage register, can be viewed year-round only from the outside. There are no regular interior tours, opening hours or public ticket prices. Do not enter the fenced property without the owner’s permission; plan a short photo stop instead. Nearby, you can visit the Gothic Church of St John the Baptist in Skotniki, the Cistercian abbey in Koprzywnica and the ruins of Krzyżtopór Castle.
