From the water, Sandomierz looks different than from the hills above the town: the panorama of the old town rises from the level of the river, and the banks are overgrown with thickets full of birds. Vistula cruises depart from Stary Port at Wybrzeże Józefa Piłsudskiego street, about ten minutes' walk from the market square.
The most distinctive vessel in the fleet is the Sandomierka, a wooden raftsman's boat of the dubas type owned by captain Tadeusz Prokop. Sightseeing ships also sail the river, including the Albatros of Żegluga Śródlądowa. The basic cruise lasts about an hour; sunset cruises, fishing trips and educational outings for children and teenagers are also on offer. Longer routes, for example towards Kazimierz Dolny, are arranged individually and depend on the water level.
A ticket for the Sandomierka cruise costs PLN 30 for adults and PLN 25 for children; the boat can be chartered exclusively for PLN 250 on weekdays or PLN 300 at weekends. There are no age restrictions on board, and life vests are prepared for the youngest passengers. The lower Vistula has kept its natural backwaters and wild bird habitats, so a cruise offers contact with the river that no viewpoint on land can match.
