Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Boronów

The wooden Church of Our Lady Queen of the Rosary in Boronów is a distinctive church in Silesian Voivodeship. The present building was erected in 1611 on the initiative of Count Andrzej Dzierżanowski. Its defining feature is the Greek-cross plan, rare in wooden church architecture. The church stands at 1 Wolności Street and is part of the Wooden Architecture Trail of Silesian Voivodeship.

Architecture and history

The church is a log-built structure made of pine and larch, set on a stone base. Its central layout gives it an unusual silhouette. The date 1291 carved on a beam of the main altar is sometimes associated with an earlier church in Boronów. It does not confirm the age of the present building, which is dated to 1611.

Highlights inside

The high altar contains an image of Our Lady of the Rosary with the souls in purgatory. Also look for the 18th-century late-Baroque altars with illusionistic decoration and an image of the Virgin and Child funded by Gabriel Ciecierski. The northern chapel’s predella shows the founders adoring the crucifix. Processional boards from the first half of the 18th century have also survived.

Do not enter during a service without permission; arrive outside Mass and ask whether the interior can be shown. Current services are published on the parish website. The church is a good stop on a short wooden-church itinerary around Lubliniec.
