Długosz House — Diocesan Museum in Sandomierz

Długosz House at 9 Jana Długosza Street is one of Sandomierz’s most valuable historic buildings and the home of the Diocesan Museum. The late-Gothic red-brick house was built in 1476 on the foundation of Jan Długosz for mansionary priests. Look for the steep gabled roof, two Gothic portals and the foundation plaque with the Wieniawa coat of arms above the entrance.

What to see inside

The historic rooms hold a collection of religious art from Sandomierz and the surrounding region. The displays include Gothic paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and liturgical objects. A visit combines the architecture of a former mansionary house with a museum collection, so it works best as a calm addition to a cathedral and Royal Castle itinerary rather than as a full-day attraction. Temporary exhibitions change; in September 2026 the museum announced that the “Artem Vitae” sculpture exhibition would run until the end of the month.

Hours, tickets and planning

The museum is closed on Mondays. In the summer season, from 1 May to 15 October, it opens Tuesday to Saturday 9:00–16:30 and Sundays and public holidays 13:30–16:30; the last Sunday admission is at 16:00. In winter, from 16 October to 30 April, hours are shorter: Tue–Sat 9:00–15:30 and Sundays and public holidays 13:30–15:30, with last admission at 15:00. Sandomierz Travel lists tickets at PLN 15 regular, PLN 12 pensioner and PLN 10 school, but check the museum’s current prices and holiday exceptions before visiting.
