Kraków Gate in Ojców

Krakowska Gate is one of the most recognisable rock formations in Ojców National Park. Two limestone pillars narrow the Prądnik Valley and create a natural gateway between Ojców and the farther part of the valley. Treat it as a stop on a walk rather than a quick photo point: routes to Łokietek's Grotto and other park attractions start nearby.

What to see

The rocks formed in Jurassic limestone shaped by water and karst processes. Up close, you can see the bedding, cracks and plants growing in the fissures. The pillars rise several metres above the path and create the distinctive gateway shape. It is a good place for a short break before continuing towards Góra Koronna.

Building a route

Krakowska Gate lies on marked trails in the Prądnik Valley. You can reach it from Ojców and then follow the blue trail through the Ciasne Skałki Gorge towards Łokietek's Grotto. In the other direction, the route runs through Ojców past the castle ruins and the “On the Water” Chapel. A longer option uses part of the Trail of the Jurassic Strongholds.

Practical tips

Walking past Krakowska Gate is free and requires no separate ticket. Parking and other Ojców National Park facilities may be paid, so check current parking rules and park notices before travelling. Allow 1–2 hours for a short walk from Ojców, or half a day if you add Łokietek's Grotto, the castle and more of the valley. Paths can be slippery after rain; on weekends, arrive early or use public transport instead of searching for a space at midday.
