Ski Lifts in Szklarska Poręba

The ski lifts in Szklarska Poręba (SHKLAR-ska po-REM-ba) belong to Szrenica Ski Arena, the largest ski area on the Polish side of the Karkonosze, or Giant Mountains. It spreads across the northern slopes of Szrenica peak, with three chairlifts, five ski lifts and about 12 km of groomed runs. The main chairlift also runs outside the ski season, so hikers use the same lifts in summer and fall to reach the main ridge.

Where it is and how to get there

Szklarska Poręba is a mountain resort in southwestern Poland, near the Czech border and roughly two hours by car from Wrocław, the nearest airport. Direct trains from Wrocław to Szklarska Poręba Górna take about 2.5–3 hours. The lower station is at ul. Turystyczna 25a. Paid municipal and private parking lots sit next to it. On busy weekends the operator suggests looking for spaces on one-way ul. Urocza near the Mineralogical Museum.

Lifts and runs

• Szrenica I and II: a two-section, two-seat chairlift (1,417 m and 1,341 m) to a top station just below the summit. It runs year-round.
• Karkonosz Express: a six-seat chairlift from the base toward Świąteczny Kamień, 2,393 m long with 508 m of vertical. It runs in winter, for skiers only.
• Ski lifts: Ściana, Świąteczny Kamień, Hala Szrenicka I and II, plus a Baby Lift for beginners.
• Runs: FIS (very difficult), Lolobrygida and Śnieżynka (difficult), Puchatek and Hala Szrenicka (easy). The operator says snowmaking covers the whole ski area. Puchatek is the only lit run and hosts night skiing.

Winter 2026/27: what we know

As of October 2026, the resort has not announced its opening date or lift-pass prices for 2026/27. Its maintenance team started pre-season work on the Karkonosz Express in September.

For planning: winter lift hours are 8:30 am–4:00 pm. The last ride down for hikers is at 3:30 pm. Last season (2025/26), night skiing on Puchatek ran 6:00–9:00 pm, and an adult day pass cost 185 PLN (Polish złoty). Children under 7 skied free with a paying adult. Expect changes for the new season.

Riding the lift in fall (as of October 2026)

• Szrenica I and II run daily 9:00 am–4:30 pm; last ride up and down at 4:00 pm.
• Low-season fares until October 25, 2026: both sections up 66 PLN (children 7–14: 39 PLN), round trip 74/55 PLN.
• Section I is closed on October 12, 2026 for maintenance.
• The ride does not include Karkonosze National Park entry (11 PLN, reduced 5.50 PLN), which you need on the ridge.

A bit of history

The first chairlift up Szrenica opened in 1962 with single seats. It was rebuilt in the early 1990s and reopened with two-seat chairs on December 21, 1993. The Karkonosz Express followed in December 2010.

Is it worth it?

For families and intermediate skiers, yes: it is the biggest lift network on the Polish side, with a gentle lit run for beginners. Advanced skiers get the steep FIS and Lolobrygida runs from the top station. Outside winter, the lift is the fastest way to the Szrenica summit hut, about a 15-minute walk from the top station. Nearby Jakuszyce is known for cross-country ski trails.
