Observation Tower in Baborów

On Wiejska Street in Baborów, at an altitude of 249 m above sea level, a small observation tower of metal and wood has been built. It is 10 metres tall and has two levels, and its construction became part of the development of the cross-border Silesianka Trail, comprising dozens of towers and viewing platforms on the Polish-Czech borderland.

What you can see from the top

From the terraces the view reaches the surroundings of Baborów: nearby villages, St Anne's Mountain and the hills on the Czech side of the border. At the foot of the tower there are information boards about the local nature and insect hotels, so the site serves as a short nature stop, not just a viewpoint. The tower is open from mid-March to the end of November, admission is free, and there is a car park nearby.

A town chartered before 1340

Baborów in the Opole Voivodeship lies on the Psina river, in the Sudetic Foreland. It received its town charter before 1340, was downgraded before 1575 and chartered again in 1718. Today it has around 2,800 residents and is the seat of an urban-rural municipality in Głubczyce county. The town's name is derived from the personal name Bawor, a synonym of a Bavarian.

In the vicinity

Close to the tower stands the wooden church of St Joseph and St Barbara, surrounded by a historic cemetery. Nearby you will also find the palace in Krowiarki and the observation tower in Pietrowice Wielkie, which makes it possible to plan a longer trip following the Land of the Upper Oder.
