Wooden Church in Pietrowice Wielkie

The pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross in Pietrowice Wielkie is a wooden church on the road to Gródczanki, about 1.5 km from the village centre. It was built in 1667 at a site associated with a spring and the veneration of the Crucified Christ.

A pilgrimage site

The church began as a field chapel and was gradually enlarged from the 18th century into its present layout. It is oriented and log-built. Pilgrims were drawn by an image of the Crucifixion associated with received graces. In 1899, a Neo-Gothic wayside chapel with a spring intake was built beside the church.

What to see

The interior is centred on a late-Baroque altar with an image of the Crucified Jesus from the early 18th century. It is accompanied by two mid-18th-century side altars dedicated to St Anne and Our Lady of the Rosary. Look for the outdoor pulpit with canopy, a 17th-century sandstone stoup and a crystal chandelier.

No regular sightseeing hours independent of services have been confirmed. Municipal information lists Mass at the Holy Cross church on Sundays at 11:00 and seasonally on Fridays; check the current parish schedule before travelling.
