Luge Track on Góra Żar

The year-round luge track on the northern slope of Góra Żar (761 m above sea level) ranks among the most spectacular rides in the Little Beskids. The route consists of a dozen or so profiled ramps and bends at fairly sharp angles, and the ride itself is compared to an amusement-park coaster — except that the passenger controls the speed with their own brake. The start lies by the upper station of the funicular, not far from the former meteorology building.

Up the mountain by funicular

The comfortable way to the top of Żar is the terrain funicular launched in 2004: it covers 1,300 metres in 5.5 minutes. At the upper station you will find food outlets, a restaurant and viewing scopes with a described panorama. From the summit stretches a view of the Żywiec Basin with Lake Żywiec, while the western slopes of the mountain drop straight down to Lake Międzybrodzie.

A ride for everyone

The track operates all year round — in winter the surroundings resemble a snowy fairy-tale landscape, and the views reach even farther through bare trees. The rules are clear: children ride only with adults, and solo rides are possible from the age of fourteen. The mountain combines luge rides with skiing — in the winter season two lifts and ski runs operate alongside them.

In practice

The summit can also be reached by the asphalt road built in 1979, reserved for authorised vehicles only, and by two hiking trails. A paid car park operates at the lower station of the funicular, so the simplest solution is to leave the car in Międzybrodzie Żywieckie, take the funicular up and finish the ride by its lower station.
