Pastewnik Open-Air Museum in Przeworsk

By the Mleczka river, opposite the Lubomirski palace with its museum, stretches a complex of wooden houses that combines museum-grade heritage protection with everyday life — a restaurant, an inn and a campsite. Pastewnik in Przeworsk is sometimes called a living open-air museum: the cottages and manor houses do not stand empty but serve guests.

From cattle pasture to skansen

The name comes from the place where cattle were once grazed, and in the 19th century the grounds served the townsfolk for picnics and fairs. Construction of the museum began in 1976 and — as its keepers report — continues to this day, with further heritage buildings of the region's wooden architecture joining the complex.

Wooden interiors

Guests are greeted by log houses and manor homes roofed with wooden shingles, with wooden gutters and small windows, surrounded by old trees, wooden fences, mallows and sunflowers. The originally furnished rural and burgher rooms retain their old fittings, and in one of the cottages a restaurant serves specialities of the regional cuisine.

In practice

The grounds are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00 and on Sundays from 11:00, with the same address handling the campsite and inn. This makes Pastewnik a convenient base for exploring Przeworsk, one of the oldest towns in the region, chartered in 1393. The museum lies by the main road, a few hundred metres from the town centre.
