Market Square in Lanckorona

Lanckorona in the Wadowice county was a town for 268 years — it received its town charter in 1366 and lost it in 1934. That age-old order is still visible in the centre: the market square with its historic buildings remains the heart of the town, and the rhythm of the day flows noticeably slower here than anywhere nearby. Residents and tourists cross paths on the square every day, but nobody is in a hurry.

A haven for artists

The square is famous for its unique architecture and calm atmosphere, which have attracted artists for years — the town favours reflection and creative work. As a result, studios and small galleries are easy to find around the square, and buying handicrafts has become part of the Lanckorona visiting ritual.

Angels and cats

A distinctive feature of the town are angel sculptures — one of them stands in the surroundings of the square, and local cats like to rest by the figures, having grown into Lanckorona's second attraction. The Regional Museum also operates by the square, collecting memorabilia of the settlement's burgher past.

In practice

The square is visited without tickets, best enjoyed calmly and unhurriedly — in line with the local rhythm. It is worth looking into the Regional Museum and checking its opening hours on site, then sitting down in one of the cafés by the square. Lanckorona was a royal town — in the late 16th century it belonged to the Lanckorona tenancy in the Szczyrzyce county of the Kraków voivodeship.
