Park Wrocławski in Lubin

Park Wrocławski in Lubin, located in the south-eastern part of the city on Wrocławska Street, covers 14 hectares and is both the oldest and the most nature-rich park in Lubin. Its origins reach back to the first decades of the nineteenth century, when fragments of palace oak-hornbeam forests and riparian woods in the Zimnica valley were incorporated into it; among the old trees grow 16 of Lubin's 37 natural monuments.

The 2013–2014 revitalisation

A thorough modernisation was carried out in 2013–2014, adapting the park to educational functions. In 2014 the Nature Education Centre opened, comprising an aviary with more than sixty species of Polish and European birds — from the white-tailed eagle and steppe eagle to capercaillies and cranes — a mini-zoo with goats, sheep, ponies and donkeys, and a dinosaur trail with figures from a tyrannosaur to a diplodocus and brachiosaurus. Two playgrounds were added, a palaeontology zone with a dig site, a volleyball court and a giant chessboard.

Nature and recreation

The park protects three zones of vegetation: old-growth oak-hornbeam forest with maple, sycamore, hornbeam, pedunculate oak and large-leaved linden; wild riparian woods where no human intervention takes place; and managed greenery around a pond inhabited by ducks and swans. Wide avenues, educational boards and maps make it a popular destination for family walks, and the entrance on Wrocławska Street lies close to the city centre. All the educational attractions are free of charge.
