Wielopolski Palace in Chrobrze

In Ponidzie, in the village of Chroberz near Pińczów, stands the late-classicist palace of 1859 founded by Margrave Aleksander Wielopolski. The residence was designed by Henryk Marconi — the same architect to whom Busko-Zdrój owes its famous sanatorium. Chroberz was once the main seat of the estates of the Pińczów Ordination after the Wielopolskis sold Pińczów.

Interiors and park

In the former hunting hall, today the Regional Gallery, four portrait medallions with images of successive owners of the residence have survived. Next to the hall stands a palace chapel designed on a circular plan. The residence is surrounded by a historic English-style park with monumental trees.

Wars and film

During the January Uprising, the troops of Marian Langiewicz were quartered in the palace; on 17 March 1863 the insurgents fought a battle with the Russians here. In August 1944 an SS platoon led by Theodor van Eupen, commandant of the Treblinka camp, stayed at the palace. A film curiosity is the ball scene in Odolany from Filip Bajon's „Przedwiośnie" („The Spring to Come"), shot in Chroberz in 2000.

The palace houses the Centre of Cultural Heritage and Agricultural Traditions of Ponidzie with several exhibitions. Address: 14 Parkowa Street, Chroberz.
